Dr. Farouk Shami, is the Chairman and Founder of Farouk Systems, Inc., a billion-dollar professional hair care company that manufactures CHI, BioSilk, and Esquire Grooming hair care brands, and services 144 countries worldwide. He is living proof of the American Dream.
Dr. Shami has many firsts such as:
- 1st hairdresser to receive a Doctor of Beauty — Honorary Ph.D. of Arts by SeoKyeong University in Korea,
- 1st hairdresser to revolutionize the beauty industry by creating the first ammonia-free hair lightener and coloring system,
- 1st hairdresser to utilize NASA technology in the development of professional styling tools and hair care and
- 1st hairdresser to use silk proteins in the creation of the BioSilk Silk Therapy Line
- 1st hairdresser to invent the very first CHI Ceramic Hairstyling Iron

Dr. Shami’s entire career has been devoted to providing hairdressers with the safest and most advanced technologies for every product or tool he has created.

Dr. Shami has been inspired by how elements are used outside of the beauty industry.
While traveling, he saw ceramic technology used in pizza ovens and lava stone used for cooking. He has incorporated them into his tools, both serving as excellent conductors of heat.
Dr. Shami's passion for the hairdresser and the beauty industry has led him to be a front runner globally as he loves to share his knowledge and expertise with others.
His company also celebrates hair artistry with the CHI Lone Star College-North Harris School of Cosmetology at the new state-of-the-art facility in Houston, Texas as well as over 500 partner schools across the country.
Dr. Shami’s goal is to impact the growth and development of future hairstylists as well as influencing their lives globally with Advanced American Technology and passion for hair.
